FURNITURE FABRICATOR

We are currently seeking a full-time furniture builder to work in our Brooklyn workshop. We require a minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience working in an industrial production woodshop focused on hardwood fabrication. Candidates are expected to consistently build high quality furniture and maintain a clean and organized workshop.

The position requires physical labor and to be on your feet for the majority of the day. Furniture school or hobbyist level experience does not qualify. Candidates must be organized and methodical, possessing the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in order to meet production calendar deadlines. Applicants must be able to read and work from technical drawings and possess standard woodworking skills. Additional training will be provided for any specific DGD production techniques.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Execute furniture production to the highest quality meeting all DGD standards

• Maintain and adhere to production schedule and project deadlines

• Maintain a well-organized and clean shop space

• Receive and organize building materials and supplies

• Hand select hardwood best suited for different parts of a project

• Help keep an accurate inventory of material and furniture parts in house

• Conduct quality control inspections throughout projects and at completion

• Prepare shipments for pick-up and delivery via white glove or freight deliveries

• Assist in pick-ups, local furniture and vendor deliveries

• Conduct machine maintenance

REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum 3-5 years of experience building furniture professionally

• Detail oriented with a focus on fine craftsmanship

• Read drawings and build to specifications provided

• Experience working with machinery: sliding table saw, jointer, planer, radial saw, band saw

• Knowledge of hand tools and experience in machine setup and general safety measures

• Knowledge of building materials, wood species and hardwood characteristics

• Distinguish variations in color, wood grain and defects in hard woods

• Finishing experience is a plus: Spray and hand applied techniques

• Accurately measure and quickly do simple math required to build to specification

• Spot problems and correct them quickly and effectively

• Work independently and with a small team

• Produce high quality work at a quick and intentional pace

• Be punctual and reliable with good communication skills

• Lift and carry significant weight

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • DGD will offer a package including a competitive hourly rate of $28-34 an hour, commensurate with experience and additional skills

PAID WORKING TRIAL

Applicants will commit to a paid working trial to accurately gauge skill level and experience. The initial one-to-two-day trial will be followed by a two week trial period.

This position is non-remote and is based in our Brooklyn Studio.
